Music: Two more great songs from Wink
My buddy Wink posted two more songs to his MySpace site. “Leaving Chicago” is a brand new song about Wink’s bittersweet six years in Chicago. On his blog, Wink tells the story behind the song. Thanks for being so vulnerable with us, Wink!
Wink also recently made available the song “Julie’s Song,” which is a song he wrote about 10 years ago. The song is actually about me. Yea. And Julie, who was my big crush back in college; she was my dream girl, my pedestal girl. I didn’t actually know her that well — I just thought she was insanely gorgeous. And in my mind, we hit it off huge, we were a perfect fit — it was all so perfect, in my mind.
I didn’t have the guts to ask her out until a year after we had graduated from college. At the time, she was living in Chicago; I was in Grand Rapids, MI. I asked her to go to a wedding with me in Wisconsin.
Long story short: We didn’t hit it off at all, not in any kind of romantic way … and she slept in the car on the way back from the wedding. As she slept on that car ride home, I looked over at her many times, just taking in her beauty — and grieving the loss of my Pedestal Girl. Ouch.
I remember that as I was driving I was listening to a Bulls playoff game on the radio. And I also remember feeling proud of myself … for asking Julie to the wedding. Instead of forever living with the question, “I wonder what could have been?” now I knew … at least now I knew Julie and I weren’t meant to be. In some sense it was a freeing and empowering moment … and a sad moment.

Hey Andy. First off, you are a good writer! I’m enjoying reading your blog. Thank you for that! Second, I listened to your friend’s music. Folk rock…good stuff! Third, good for you for pursuing your desire. Along my path, I’ve begun to understand how much power we give to people, feelings, and desires by not taking the opportunity to explore them more fully (beyond our own minds). I create some incredible stories (I have a rich internal life), taking myself to the height of ecstasy or the pits of despair, only to find that there is absolutely no energy around the thing at all, once I work up the courage to “confront” it. I’m finding that it works in my most sacred of relationships too…if I’m afraid of something with respect to that person, I’ll walk up and say, “I’m afraid to tell you something.” And even before I’ve said what it is I’m afraid of, I’m already not feeling quite as afraid because I’ve already taken a lot of its power away. Well, well…I suppose I should get on to the rest of my day…hope that yours is delightful. See ya! And keep up the good work!

I opened this website for myself long time ago. Today it has become even better. I like the links and info that is given here, I just dislike some people. They make a lot of mistakes when posting or commenting. They are usually rude and have a bunch of problems I think. They spoil this website. I would want them to leave this place alone and go somewhere else to have their kind of fun.
