I’m Moving BACK to Chicago
Today I’m driving from Santa Fe to Denver, where I’ll hang with some close friends for the night. Santa Fe is an incredibly unique city — and it’s very, very brown (which I’m fond of). A city ordinance says that every building has to be brown. That’s my kind of city! Building or home owners get to choose from twenty or so shades of brown; I think that’s generous.
Last night I stayed at the Santa Fe International Hostel (in photo at left), which is by far the best and biggest hostel I’ve stayed in. For $27, I got my own room and wireless Net access and a wonderful cheese danish breakfast. And I enjoyed some conversation with some sweet, sweet people, fellow guests.
If all goes well, I’ll be in Chicago by Monday evening. So far my 1987 Toyota Corolla — packed with all my earthly possessions — is doing great!

Apparently, the city ordinance does not regulate lovely murals over the brown backdrop. That is very generous of them (or the hostel is breaking city code and thanks to your blog and my comment, they are outted and will probably have to paint over it – oops).
Glad to hear your travels are going well, Andy. Best of luck getting to Denver and beyond (beyond as in Chicago, not outer space.. though that sounds like fun).

AP — welcome back to -30 windchill! Sorry I can’t order anything better for you here, but a Vikings loss and a Bears win could ease the cold! See you soon!

Hey Andy – My computer has been down for couple weeks (I’m currently typing on my kids iMac from 2001 – yeah, I’m cool). Best of luck with the move and Merry Christmas. I’ll ask the question that your mom and dad are thinking but don’t want to ask, “What are you going to do in Chicago? Like for a job?”

Laurie! Hey there! You’re cracking me up, as usual. Thanks for that. And Happy New Year to you and your fam.
I’m sorry it’s taken me SO LONG to respond to your very poignant question.
My answer: I don’t know.
I’m in full job-search mode right now, and I don’t have any strong leads yet. Locally, here in Arlington Hts., I’ve applied at Trader Joe’s, Panera and Denny’s. Yes, Denny’s, every teenager’s favorite late-night hangout. I need money!
I hope your computer’s back up and running! And, as always, your blog’s rockin’. FUNNY! I love that you’re starting to include video!
Blessings,
A
